Gait Analysis for Custom Orthotics

A gait analysis helps determine if custom orthotics will benefit you, whether you’re curious about them or already know you need them. Through this gait analysis, we examine your gait and make orthotics tailored specifically for YOU, aiming to help reduce discomfort, prevent future conditions or injuries, and restore balance to the feet. This appointment goes beyond just looking at your feet; we examine the way you walk (your gait) and the alignment of your body, allowing us to uncover the root cause of your issues.

During a gait analysis appointment, the chiropractor will do a foot scan, shoe assessment, and biomechanical assessment.

Key aspects of the gait analysis include:

  • Determining the highest pressure points on your feet
  • Observing the motion and timing of your foot’s contact with the ground
  • Examining the alignment of your feet, knees, hips, and lower back
  • Comparing your walking gait to the normal gait

What Can I Expect During My Appointment?

Prior to the appointment, we will ask that you bring all of the shoes you wear throughout the year, including summer footwear like flip-flops and sandals, as well as winter or rain boots.

Upon entering the treatment room, the chiropractor will ask you to place your shoes on the counter and to remove your current footwear, including socks. During the appointment, the chiropractor will typically start by evaluating your body and feet, explaining how the condition of your feet impacts your overall health and daily activities. This is the biomechanical assessment portion of the analysis.

As we conduct your footscan, various graphs, numbers, and other statistics are produced. The chiropractor will then interpret these numbers and show and explain how they relate to your current condition. After an in-depth discussion about your results and after answering any questions you may have, the chiropractor will then assess your shoes. With this analysis, the chiropractor can then recommend whether to proceed with custom orthotics.
