Do I Need a Referral?

Some healthcare plans have changed their referral requirements. Check your health care plan for further information.

Chiropractic

You do not need one from a medical doctor to receive chiropractic treatment. Licensed doctors of chiropractic can examine and diagnose conditions. Doctors of chiropractic also provide referrals to appropriate healthcare professionals.

Registered massage therapy

You will require a referral from a medical doctor to receive health insurance coverage for massage therapy. Registered massage therapists do not examine and diagnose conditions.

Physiotherapy

You will require one from a medical doctor to receive health insurance coverage for physiotherapy. Physiotherapists do not examine and diagnose conditions.

Orthotics

You will require one to receive coverage for treatment by an orthotist. Please consult your health plan to determine which medical professionals can provide a referral for orthotic therapy.
